Cities find the oasis

Cities outside Tempe are embracing the Tech Oasis concept and launching efforts to raise the visibility of their technology attributes.

Phoenix will be the first to kick off a "Tech Oasis Night High-Tech Happy Hour," and some businesses in the Scottsdale Airpark are looking at the idea as well.

Andy Hanshaw, director of business development for the Downtown Phoenix Partnership, says the event provides a networking opportunity for professionals in tech-related fields and also is part of a larger strategy to promote Copper Square as a New Economy business location.

"Copper Square has several locational amenities for New Economy-based businesses, including the presence of numerous fiber-optic lines, a wide variety of office space options, urban housing and nightlife amenities," he said.

The event, co-sponsored by the Downtown Phoenix Partnership and Inflow, a data center company, will be at 5:30 p.m. at Majerle's 9-Lounge in Copper Square on March 29. For more: 602-744-6404 or ahan shaw@downtownphx.org.
